The North Hatley Club (NHC) is a private summer club located on the shores of Lake Massawippi in North Hatley, Quebec. Founded in 1897, it is cosmopolitan community of people, its members hailing from Quebec, the rest of Canada, the US and several other countries. Members are actively involved as volunteers, supporting the NHC community with family oriented, multi-generational activities and social events. The Club operates primarily during the summer months; late June to late August, although there are occasionally member events at other times. Its main activities include sailing, tennis, social activities, and it offers a very popular junior program.

The position:

NHC is seeking a Club Manager to succeed the incumbent, who has decided to retire. The Club Manager reports to the Chair of the Board of Directors, and supervises seven staff members including the Social Director, Lead Counsellor and, indirectly, counsellors and other staff involved in delivery of specific activities. During the summer the position is full time, or from 35 to 44 hours per week. Some part-time work is required during the off season, largely focused on hiring of summer staff members and administration related to summer program offerings.

Priorities of the function include:

  • Overall responsibility for the safety and enjoyment of all members at the Club including supervision of staff and delivery of the daily programs in all areas (boating, tennis, swimming and other social activities).
  • Work closely with the Social Director and the Lead Counsellor to liaise with Club members and members of the Board of Directors to continually improve the offerings of the NHC with respect to program instruction and physical facilities.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently throughout the year and in especially in the summer months with members, suppliers, and local community as required.

The candidate:

The ideal candidate will have experience in management of a club, recreational facility or other relevant experience in managing people and programs. A strong communicator, qualified candidates will also enjoy dealing with people of all ages, and be perfectly fluent in English. Although French is not absolutely required, fluency is considered an asset.

Strong interpersonal skills and a teamwork approach are essential to success in this position. Experience working with a Board of Directors is also an asset, given the very important role that the NHC Board plays in the programming and year-round support to management of the Club. Compensation is competitive.
