POSITION OVERVIEW: Develop and animate a series of workshops via ZOOM to promote the development of gross motor skills for babies and young children.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

•Develop gross motor skills among groups of babies and toddlers aged 1-2 years old and 3-5 years old through ZOOM workshops
•Break social isolation experienced by Anglophones and Allophones in Trois-Rivières and the surrounding areas

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The ZOOM Mini move series is an adaptation of a program where children aged 0-5 engage in free play using modules and games which promote movements such as climbing, jumping, crawling etc. to help children develop gross motor skills. Gross motor skills involve the whole body and include things likestanding, walking, running, jumping, lifting, kicking etc. These skills also relate to body awareness,reaction speed, balance and strength.

The activities must be varied and adapted to specific age groups and abilities. Key responsibilities include:
•Co-develop and animate two 8-week series of gross motor skills workshops, one series for babies aged 1-2 and the other toddlers aged 3-5
•Creatively incorporate storytelling into mediums like yoga poses, dance, exercise and other movement forms to keep babies and toddlers engaged, active and developing important gross motor skills for 30 minute periods
•Provide parents with weekly written tools (simple activities and games) that can be reproduced at home with their children
•Create a welcoming environment for families •Keep track of the number of children and families participating weekly

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates will have relevant experience working with babies, children and families, and knowledge and understanding of current theory and practice in gross motor skills development for 0-5 year olds. The ideal candidate will have a diploma or currently be pursuing a degree in a related field of study such as early childhood development, kinesiology, ergotherapy or physical education. Candidates must be bilingual and able to work in English - activities will be animated in English.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

•Basic understanding of the development milestones of babies and toddlers •Ability to adapt movements and language for participants aged 1-2 and 3-5
•Creativity
•Strong leadership skills
•Ability to work autonomously and in a team
•Good working knowledge of English. Functional knowledge of French an asset.
•Good organizational and time management skills

TERMS OF CONTRACT AND SALARY

•Contract dates:January 25 – March 27, 2021 (ZOOM activities begin Saturday, February 6)
•48-64 hours total including planning and animation (Approx 6-8 hours/week during activity sessions).
•Salary: 20$/hour

SCHEDULE:

•8 weeks of gross motor skills activities for babies 1-2 years old and 3-5 years old
•ZOOM workshops are on Saturday mornings from February 6- March 27. 1-2 year-old group from 9:00 – 9:30 am, 3-5 year-old group from 10:00 – 10:30 am. All other hours are for research, design and preparation for the workshops. These hours are flexible. The 2 animators are expected to agree upon times to meet together virtually outside of the Saturday morning Mini move activities (approx. 4 hours/week) to do co-planning. These hours can be divided and scheduled according to the availability of both animators.
•Animators will ideally begin their functions as of January 25 in order to plan for the activities beginning on February 6.
•Animators must provide the program coordinator with a complete activity plan for each set of workshops one week prior to the activities. The coordinator will provide feedback and animators will make adjustments and changes when necessary.
•Animators must provide the program coordinator with the documents to send to parents a minimum of 3 days prior to each Mini move activity. The program coordinator is responsible for editing and sending the documents to participating families.
