Writing Local History
Thursday, August 19th, 1:30
PM est
This series of four
workshops will look at some of the problems that writers of local history might
encounter. We will consider topics such as the difficulties posed by old texts,
the importance of establishing setting, how to deal with multiple sources, and
why we write local history. Each session will include at least one 10–15-minute
writing period.
August’s Workshop
This workshop will draw attention
to the way language changes over time. Participants will be presented with the
problem of “translating” old language into current, conversational language.
