The four major types
of essays address these purposes:

–        
Narrative essays (or memoir): telling a story about a
real-life experience;

–        
Descriptive essays: painting a picture;

–        
Expository essays: just the facts;

–        
Persuasive essays: convince me.

In this workshop on
expository writing, we will look at the types of expository writing, including
journalistic writing, and criticism, as well as the four types of essays noted
above. Hands-on practice in selecting a topic and following the steps to
creating an interesting and effective work will form the bulk of our time
together.
